Trench China
Line Trap

Trench China is pleased to announce that it has passed a record short circuit test on one of its highest rated Line Traps.

The Line Trap rating is 3150A, 1.0mH with a short circuit capability of 63kA/2sec and a mechanical peak of 161kA.

The test was conducted at the highest limit of the power supply of KEMA's short circuit test facility in the Netherlands.
500kV Air Core Dry type Reactors for Bus Tie Application
TUCURUÍ BRAZIL PROJECT….550 kV System

Trench has successfully tested one of the largest air core dry type reactors ever built. Trench is the turnkey contractor to Eletronorte (Brazil) for the supply, installation and commissioning of a complete bus tie reactor system including the TRV capacitors. Commissioning of the reactors is expected to be completed by April 30, 2003.

Capacitors Installation
The Tucuruí hydro power project, totaling 8,490MW, is located on the Tocantius River in the northern state of Pará, in Brazil. It consists of two independent power houses built in one dam.
Construction started in 1975 Stage 1:
First generator went on line in 1983.
Stage 1, now fully operational, has 12 generators of 350MW each, for a total installed capacity of 4,200MW.
Stage 2:
Presently under construction, will have 11 generators @390MW each, for a total installed capacity of 4,280MW.
The first machine of Stage 2 went on line in 2002 and a new generator is expected to go on line at 4 month intervals.

Tucuruí Dam
The total project is scheduled for completion in 2006.
Application: Bus Tie Reactor between stages 1 and 2
Reason: Short circuit rating for equipment in stage 1(40kA),
would have been exceeded if stage 1 was to be inter-
connected with stage 2 directly.
Reactor Ratings: 20 ohms, 2600 Amp
Power Rating 135 MVA/phase
1550 KV BIL
