| The Tucuruí hydro power project, totaling 8,490MW, is located on the Tocantius River in the northern state of Pará, in Brazil. It consists of two independent power houses built in one dam. | ||
| Construction started in 1975 | Stage
1: First generator went on line in 1983. Stage 1, now fully operational, has 12 generators of 350MW each, for a total installed capacity of 4,200MW. Stage 2: Presently under construction, will have 11 generators @390MW each, for a total installed capacity of 4,280MW. The first machine of Stage 2 went on line in 2002 and a new generator is expected to go on line at 4 month intervals. |
